The first SAS Digital Challenge 2017 was a competition within one of the MSc Digital Marketing and Analytics modules at Regent's University London, students investigated the use of Internet of Things for marketing for the grocery retail sector. The winners were able to pitch their proposals to a SAS client and conducted a consultancy project sponsored by grocery retail.

On 2019, the second SAS Digital Challenge became part of the SAS Academic programme and hosted by SAS at their London office including students from University of Kent, Regent's University London, Hertfordshire University and Royal Holloway University of London.
The challenge was based around the significant growth of cycle use across European cities. The brief focused on teams developing the next generation of insurance products for millennials and eco-conscious individuals. The use of IoT devices for bicycle security, health and fitness monitoring was also explored as a key incentive that the company could offer.
Students were allocated into six teams to promote collaboration between different universities and backgrounds. They spent the day working and interacting with an entire SAS team that included senior directors, data analysts and SAS customers from Liverpool Victoria and RSA. The final ideas were pitched to a group of judges, ‘Dragons Den’ style. Entries were judged on factors including consumer expectations, resources required and idea potential.

The winners of the challenge attended the biggest business analytics SAS forum in the UK on 25 June, 2019. The forum takes places in Birmingham and the students present to over 500 practitioners and managers from different industries such as retailing, manufacturing and banking.
While the SAS Digital Challenge 2020 had to be cancelled due to COVID 19, we are planning the next event in 2023 which will be very exciting, watch out for this space!
